Honda Motor Co Ltd is in talks with the Malaysian government to replace the latter’s ageing fleet of Proton Perdana cars used by its ministers and deputy ministers. Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd MD and CEO Yoichiro Ueno has confirmed ongoing talks between Honda Motor Co, Proton Holdings Bhd and its parent DRB-HICOM Bhd, and the government. “Honda Motor Co is currently negotiating with the Proton management on a headquarters-to headquarters basis, as well as with the government ... one of the options is to do a feasibility study.
If Honda Motor, Proton and the government reach a consensus, then Honda Malaysia will be involved. “At the moment, discussions are at a higher level between the management of Proton and Honda,” Ueno said here on the sidelines of a business seminar on investment and business opportunities in Malaysia.
