Timber players in Malaysia adopt wait-and-see approach to recent rise in log prices

Major timber players in Malaysia are adopting a wait-and-see approach in reaction to the recent increase in log prices, say industry sources. A spokesman for Ta Ann Holdings Bhd said the recent spike in log prices may be due to seasonal trends. "Average log selling prices have fluctuated between US$180 and US$250 per cu m over the past three years, and 2013's full year average is set to be within this range, unless there is a sustained trend [of high log prices]," he said.
